Lined Pipe in New Jersey
New Jersey packs more chemistry into fewer square miles than almost any state: two tidewater refineries, the country's largest concentration of registered biopharmaceutical manufacturing plants, a specialty chemical industry that is the state's biggest exporter, and fluoroproducts, flavor and fragrance and coatings plants from the Arthur Kill to the Delaware. All of them pipe acid, caustic, solvent or high-purity water, and Marspec Technical Products fabricates the lined pipe spools and supplies the lined fittings and valves that carry it. We ship spools to New Jersey from Fairhope, Alabama. Call (251) 625-4949 to get a quote moving.
More than fifty years in the plastic-lined piping trade means we have seen most of the services your plant runs. Contact us online with a drawing or a description of the line and we will recommend a liner and quote it.
What New Jersey plants move through pipe
Refining on the Arthur Kill and the Delaware
The refinery at Linden processes on the order of a quarter million barrels a day, well over half of the state's refining capacity, and the complex around it includes a sulfuric acid regeneration plant and a lubricant and fuel additives plant. Downstate, the Paulsboro refinery on the Delaware River runs in a reconfigured mode producing asphalt, jet fuel, diesel and base oils. Alkylation acid, spent caustic, amine, sour water and the acid and caustic used in wastewater neutralization are all lined-pipe services, and PTFE-lined spools let a refinery use carbon steel housings where alloy would otherwise be specified.
Pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturing
Thirteen of the world's twenty largest pharmaceutical companies operate in New Jersey, the state leads the country in FDA-registered biopharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, and several hundred contract manufacturers and research organizations fill in around them along the Route 1 and I-287 corridors through New Brunswick, Bridgewater, Rahway, Kenilworth and Summit. These plants care about purity as much as corrosion: water for injection runs in orbital-welded, electropolished 316L sanitary systems, but the solvents, acids and caustic for clean-in-place cycles must not pick up iron or chromium from a corroding pipe wall. A PTFE liner resists the process chemistry and leaves nothing behind, which is why lined pipe and PFA-lined diaphragm valves are common in API synthesis and solvent recovery.
Specialty chemicals, fluoroproducts, flavors and coatings
The chemical industry directly employs on the order of 50,000 people in New Jersey and ships more exports than any other sector. On the Delaware at Deepwater, a 1,455 acre fluoroproducts site runs its own industrial wastewater treatment plant, and fluorochemistry means hydrofluoric acid and fluorinated intermediates that attack glass and most metals alike. Northern New Jersey is a center of flavor and fragrance manufacturing, with its solvents, essential oils and acid catalysts; the Linden, Carteret, Sayreville and Parlin waterfronts host resin, catalyst and coatings plants; and consumer product plants from Bergen County to Camden run surfactants, caustic and bleach. Add the regional wastewater plants in Newark and Middlesex County, drinking water utilities feeding sodium hypochlorite and ferric chloride, and the demineralized water systems at the nuclear station on Artificial Island, and the state has lined-pipe demand in every county with a smokestack.
What we supply to New Jersey
Custom lined pipe spools and lined fittings, 1/2" through 12", with PTFE, PVDF or polypropylene liners in carbon steel or 304 and 316 stainless housings. Straight spools to 20 ft, fabricated to your isometric with the face-to-face dimensions you need, and lined elbows, tees, crosses, reducers and laterals that match.
Lined valves in the same sizes: PTFE-lined ball, plug, butterfly, diaphragm, check and sampling valves, flanged to bolt directly to the spools. For pharmaceutical duty we can supply PFA-lined diaphragm valves where a smooth, drainable wetted surface matters.
Piping accessories include lined strainers, lined expansion joints, PTFE spacers and spectacle blinds, sight glasses and solid PTFE pipe. For winter exposure on Delaware Bay or the Meadowlands, our temperature maintenance line of clamp-on steam heaters, electric tracing and heat-transfer compound keeps 50 percent caustic above its crystallization point and keeps viscous additives and asphalt-side chemicals flowing. Vessel accessories and our PTFE machining and fluoropolymer coating services are listed under other products.
Standards you can write into the purchase order
Our lined pipe and fittings comply with ASTM F1545, and the fittings conform dimensionally to ANSI B16.5. Lined fittings are welded to ASME B31.3 by welders certified to ASME Section IX, and every lined pipe spool and fitting is spark tested at a minimum of 10,000 volts before shipment. Pressure, full-vacuum and temperature ratings for each liner are on our technical details page.

FAQ: Lined Pipe in New Jersey
Is lined pipe appropriate for API and solvent lines in a New Jersey pharmaceutical plant?
Yes. PTFE-lined pipe, fittings and PFA-lined diaphragm valves resist solvents, acids and caustic and add no metal ions to the product, which is why they are widely used in the state's active ingredient and biotech manufacturing.
What do you supply for spent caustic and acid lines at the Linden or Paulsboro refineries?
PTFE-lined spools, fittings and valves for spent caustic, alkylation sulfuric acid, amine and neutralization service, in carbon steel housings that carry full flange ratings without an alloy upgrade; PVDF-lined spools suit acid below about 93 percent at ambient temperature, but not the caustic or amine.
Can lined pipe handle hydrofluoric acid at a fluorochemical plant on the Delaware?
PTFE-lined pipe and valves are a standard material for aqueous HF and fluorinated intermediates where carbon steel, stainless and glass all fail, but HF permeates PTFE even at ambient temperature, so we specify heavy-wall liners and vented housings and spark test every spool and fitting before it ships.
Do you ship to the New Jersey industrial corridor?
We fabricate in Fairhope, Alabama and ship nationwide by truck, and fabricate custom spools in our own shop. Send dimensions and service conditions and we will quote right away.
