Plastic Lined Pipe Fittings in Mississippi

In a Mississippi plant, lined-pipe work is often fittings work. It is the elbow below a control valve, the tee where acid meets dilution water, the reducer at a pump. Marspec Technical Products supplies PTFE-, PVDF- and polypropylene-lined fittings and fabricates custom lined spools in Fairhope, Alabama, one state east of Pascagoula. Call (251) 625-4949 or contact us online with a fitting list.

Our people have spent more than fifty years on lined piping. Our statewide overview covers Mississippi's industrial base; this page covers the fittings and how to match them.

Where Mississippi plants put lined fittings

The coast: refining and titanium dioxide

The refinery on Bayou Casotte can process about 369,000 barrels of crude a day. Its alkylation acid, spent caustic and sour water lines run through lined fittings, and most replacements go in during turnarounds. Our Pascagoula page covers the refinery in depth.

Farther west, the titanium dioxide plant at DeLisle runs the chloride-ilmenite process, which draws off the ore's iron as an acidic iron chloride stream. Wet chlorine, hydrochloric acid and iron chloride acid belong in PTFE-lined fittings. Chlorine and HCl permeate PTFE, so those housings are vented, and the vents must stay open when the line is painted.

Columbus and DeSoto County

In the Golden Triangle, the Columbus flat-roll mill runs two pickle lines, one coupled to a tandem cold mill, ahead of its galvanizing lines. Pickling means hot hydrochloric acid and rinse water heavy with iron. PTFE-lined laterals, tees and reducers in vented housings take the acid circulation, with PVDF an option inside its 275 °F limit.

In DeSoto County, Olive Branch, Southaven and Hernando fall under our Memphis coverage.

Elbows to blind flanges: the range

Our PTFE fittings have a free sintered liner, and most shapes have rotating flanges so bolt holes line up without forcing the run. PTFE-lined fittings in carbon steel and stainless steel housings are stocked, with PVDF and polypropylene lined to order.

  • Elbows: 90° and 45° elbows, plus 90° reducing elbows in seven sizes and class 300 versions of the standard elbows
  • Tees: equal and reducing tees, and reducing run tees that replace a concentric reducer or reducing flange where the rack is tight
  • Instrument tees: standard and lug-body, split body with a rotating outlet flange, for pH probes, pressure instruments and sample points
  • Branches: short-stack tees and crosses, standard crosses, and laterals for a 45° entry
  • Reducers: concentric reducers, and eccentric reducers installed flat side up at a pump suction so vapor cannot collect
  • Flanges: blind flanges from 1/2" through 12" in class 150 and 300, reducing flanges, and scalloped and straight-bore reducing flanges
  • Spacers and jacketed fittings: solid and armored spacers in PTFE, PVDF or polypropylene, and fully jacketed fittings for steam or hot oil

Custom lined spools up to 20 ft are fabricated in our own shop to the same flange details. Dimension tables for every fitting are on our lined pipe and fittings page, and liner thickness, flange and bolt-torque data are on Technical Details.

Four checks before a replacement ships

A refinery outage is a poor time to find out that a new elbow is half an inch long. Before we quote a replacement, we confirm four things.

  • Flange rating: class 150 or class 300, including 150 lb ells with 300 lb flanges
  • Liner: PTFE, PVDF or polypropylene, chosen for the fluid and temperature rather than copied from what failed
  • Housing: carbon steel or 304/316 stainless, with rotating or fixed flanges to match the old fitting
  • Length: center-to-face and face-to-face dimensions to ANSI B16.5, so the fitting drops into the existing gap

Lined fittings carry identifying markings on their flanges in accordance with ASTM F1545, and a photo of them is a good place to start. Where a lined fitting meets a lined valve with a different raised-face diameter, a 1/2" spacer makes up the joint.

Standards and coatings

Our lined pipe and fittings comply with ASTM F1545. The lined fittings we supply are welded to ASME B31.3 by welders certified to ASME Section IX. Every lined spool and fitting is spark tested at a minimum of 10,000 volts. Carbon steel housings are primed for field top-coating, so a coastal plant can apply its own coating system over them.

For the valves between these fittings, see our lined valves and the Mississippi valve page; strainers and sight glasses are on the Mississippi accessories page.

FAQ: Plastic Lined Pipe Fittings in Mississippi

Can you match lined elbows and tees for a Pascagoula refinery turnaround?

Yes. Send the line list or photos of the flange markings. We match size, rating, liner and center-to-face dimensions so each fitting bolts into the existing gap. Give us the outage date with the quote request.

Which liner suits wet chlorine and iron chloride acid on the Mississippi coast?

PTFE, in vented housings, because chlorine and HCl slowly permeate the liner. Keep the vent holes clear of paint and insulation so the permeant can escape.

Which lined fittings fit a hydrochloric acid pickle line at Columbus?

PTFE-lined tees, laterals and eccentric reducers in vented housings, with instrument tees for temperature and acid-strength measurement. PVDF serves up to its 275 °F limit. Polypropylene is held to acid under about 150 °F and is available where a specification calls for it.

Are PVDF and polypropylene lined fittings in stock for Mississippi orders?

PTFE-lined fittings in carbon steel and stainless steel housings are stocked, with PVDF and polypropylene lined to order. We quote a fabrication time with every order.
