Plastic Lined Pipe Fittings in Arkansas
Lined fittings in Arkansas carry bromine and hot brine in the south, pickle acid along the Mississippi River and chlorine dioxide at the pulp mills. Marspec Technical Products supplies the elbows, tees, reducers and flanges for that service and fabricates custom lined spools in Fairhope, Alabama. Call (251) 625-4949 to talk through a fitting list.
Lined piping has been our trade for more than fifty years. Our Arkansas overview describes the state's industries in full; here we stay with fittings. Send a drawing or a photo of the failed part when you contact us online.
What Arkansas fittings carry
Smackover brine: bromine and lithium
Brine from the Smackover Formation in Union and Columbia counties holds 4,000 to 4,600 ppm bromine, about 70 times the level in seawater. Commercial recovery began in Union County in 1957, and in 2001 Arkansas produced 97 percent of U.S. bromine. Bromine, chlorine and hot brine go into PTFE-lined fittings. Bromine permeates PTFE, so those housings are vented, and extended vent couplings are available for critical service.
The same brine carries lithium, which direct lithium extraction recovers as battery-quality lithium carbonate. Battery-grade product must stay free of iron. PTFE-lined fittings suit its brine, acid and caustic lines, and PVDF stays off anything above about pH 12.
Steel along the Mississippi River
Mississippi County has traded cotton for steel since the first mill was built near Blytheville in 1987. Mills at Hickman and Osceola roll hot band, cold-rolled, galvanized and painted sheet. Cold-rolled and coated sheet starts on a hydrochloric acid pickle line. Its tees, laterals and reducers run hot HCl in vented PTFE-lined housings, with PVDF an option up to 275 °F.
Pulp in the southwest corner
The Ashdown mill has run since 1968 and makes fluff pulp and bleached softwood kraft. Bleached kraft means chlorine dioxide, a strong oxidizer, plus chloride-rich washer filtrates. PTFE-lined fittings carry both, and polypropylene has no place on chlorine dioxide.
Lined fittings in stock and to order
PTFE-lined fittings in carbon steel and stainless steel housings are stocked, with PVDF and polypropylene lined to order. Here is the range, sorted by where it sits in a line:
- At the pump: concentric reducers on the discharge, eccentric reducers flat side up on the suction, and reducing flanges to meet a smaller nozzle
- In the header: equal and reducing tees, reducing run tees, standard crosses, short-stack tees and crosses, and laterals
- Along the run: 45° and 90° elbows, including 90° reducing elbows
- At an instrument: standard and lug-body instrument tees with a rotating outlet flange
- At ends and joints: blind flanges, scalloped and straight-bore reducing flanges, and solid or armored spacers
- On heated lines: fully jacketed fittings for steam or hot oil
We also fabricate custom lined spools, up to 20 ft, to your drawing. The lined pipe and fittings page gives dimensions shape by shape; Technical Details has the liner thickness, flange and torque tables.
Matching an existing Arkansas line
When the drawings are out of date, the old fitting is the specification. Start with its flanges: lined fittings carry identifying markings on their flanges in accordance with ASTM F1545. Then confirm the flange class, 150 or 300; the liner; and the housing, carbon steel or 304/316 stainless.
Last, measure the center-to-face or face-to-face length. Fittings conform dimensionally to ANSI B16.5, so the replacement fills the old gap without cutting the line. If a lined valve beside the fitting has a different raised-face diameter, add a 1/2" spacer. On bromine and brine service, make sure the new fitting is vented like the old one.
Standards, valves and accessories
Our lined pipe and fittings comply with ASTM F1545. The lined fittings we supply are welded to ASME B31.3 by welders certified to ASME Section IX. Every lined spool and fitting is spark tested at a minimum of 10,000 volts, and carbon steel housings are primed for field top-coating.
Our lined valves page lists the valve types for these lines, and the Arkansas valve page matches them to local service. Strainers, sight glasses and spectacle blinds are on the Arkansas accessories page.

FAQ: Plastic Lined Pipe Fittings in Arkansas
What liner and housing do bromine fittings near El Dorado or Magnolia need?
PTFE-lined fittings in vented housings. Bromine permeates PTFE over time, and the vents let it escape instead of attacking the steel behind the liner; extended vent couplings are available for critical service.
Can lined fittings handle hot HCl on a Mississippi County pickle line?
Yes. PTFE in vented housings handles the acid at pickling temperature. PVDF is limited to 275 °F. For HCl below about 150 °F, polypropylene is available where a specification calls for it.
Which fittings suit the chlorine dioxide bleach plant at an Arkansas kraft mill?
PTFE-lined elbows, tees and reducers, with lined instrument tees for residual analyzers. Polypropylene is not used on chlorine dioxide or any other oxidizer.
Does a lithium brine plant in south Arkansas need lined fittings?
Usually. Hot chloride brine corrodes carbon steel and pits stainless, and the carbonate has to meet battery-grade metal limits. We put PTFE on the brine and caustic and consider PVDF only on the acid side.
