Plastic Lined Industrial Valves in Texas
A Texas valve schedule can run from alkylation acid at Port Arthur to ultrapure water at Taylor to 50 percent caustic at Freeport, and each service asks for a different lined valve. Choosing pattern and lining well keeps a line tight until the next turnaround.
Marspec Technical Products supplies plastic lined valves in PTFE and PFA to Texas plants with the lined pipe spools we fabricate in Fairhope, Alabama, after more than half a century in plastic-lined piping. We supply Swissfluid PFA- and PTFE-lined valves and build automated valve packages in house; Swissfluid USA supports its national distribution network from its facility in Stafford, Texas. Where lined valves earn their keep in Texas
Alkylation acid and spent caustic on the Gulf Coast
Texas refineries hold more than a quarter of the nation's crude distillation capacity, concentrated at Baytown, Deer Park, Pasadena, Texas City, Beaumont, Port Arthur and Corpus Christi. Alkylation units move fresh and spent sulfuric or hydrofluoric acid, the crackers beside them make spent caustic, and amine and catalyst-regeneration HCl follow. Acid transfer and spent caustic get PTFE-lined plug valves: low torque, no cavity to collect sludge, a seal adjustable in line. Anhydrous HF in the alkylation unit itself runs in carbon steel and Monel, isolated by metal-body PTFE-sleeved plug valves; on the wet side, in neutralization and scrubbers, aqueous HF gets a PFA-lined ball valve, bubble-tight with no wetted metal and with a heavy lining, since HF permeates fluoropolymers.
Chlorine and hypochlorite at Freeport and Deer Park
The Freeport complex in Brazoria County is the largest integrated chemical manufacturing site in the country, with more chlor-alkali and vinyls capacity at Deer Park, La Porte and Ingleside. Wet chlorine and 32 percent hydrochloric acid belong on PTFE- or PFA-lined ball and plug valves: the fluoropolymer resists both at carbon steel prices, though chlorine and HCl permeate it, so the matching spools get vented housings. Sodium hypochlorite decomposes on iron, nickel and copper ions, so lined diaphragm valves on dosing and lined ball valves on isolation protect the product.
Wafer fabs and lithium hydroxide
Texas ranks second in the nation for semiconductor manufacturing firms, with 300 mm fabs at Austin, Taylor, Sherman and Richardson. Ultrapure water, hydrofluoric and nitric acid and peroxide mixtures cannot pick up metal ions, so PFA-lined diaphragm and ball valves carry distribution and lined sampling valves serve the lab. At Robstown near Corpus Christi, a lithium hydroxide refinery that started up in late 2024 moves caustic leach and lithium hydroxide slurry; lined diaphragm valves tolerate solids that would score a ball seat, and lined plug valves are used too, accepting that solids can score the sleeve.
Water plants, scrubbers and the Permian
El Paso runs a large inland desalination plant, municipal plants from Houston to San Antonio dose hypochlorite, ferric salts and sulfuric acid, and ERCOT generating stations run flue gas scrubbers and demineralized water trains. Lined diaphragm valves on chemical feed, lined checks on pump discharges and lined butterfly valves on limestone slurry, kept within velocity limits, cover most of it, though rubber-lined valves often outwear fluoropolymer in neutral slurry. In the Permian Basin, 15 percent hydrochloric acid for well acidizing and chloride-heavy produced water call for PTFE-lined ball and plug valves on surface piping.
Valve types we supply
Each pattern comes PTFE- or PFA-lined, in sizes that vary by pattern, flanged to mate with ANSI B16.5 lined pipe; details are on our plastic lined valves page.
Ball valves
Quarter-turn, bubble-tight, lined body with a fluoropolymer-encapsulated ball. The standard isolation valve on chlorine, HCl, HF, caustic and solvents, with a straight bore that drains clean.
Plug valves
A tapered plug sealing fluoropolymer on fluoropolymer keeps torque low and leaves no cavity for sludge or crystals. Our first choice for sulfuric alkylation acid and tank farms, and used on lines carrying solids, accepting that grit can score the sleeve.
Butterfly valves
A PFA-encapsulated disc in a lined wafer or lug body, 2" through 12", for brine, dilute acid, filtrate and slurry where a light, economical valve is enough.
Diaphragm valves
A PTFE-faced diaphragm closes on a lined weir and seals the stem out of the process: no packing gland, no dead leg. Our pick for dosing, ultrapure water and slurry.
Check valves
Lined ball and disc checks stop backflow of acid, hypochlorite and brine through a stopped pump, with no metal to seize.
Sampling valves
A lined sampling valve pulls a representative sample from a live line with no dead leg and no operator exposure, as fab chemical rooms require.
Automation
Marspec assembles automated valve packages in-house: pneumatic and electric actuators, positioners, limit switches and solenoid valves mounted on the lined valve, stroked and tested in our shop, and shipped ready to pipe and wire. Tell us the control signal, fail position and air supply and we size the actuator to the valve's measured torque.
Matching valves to the lined pipe system
We fabricate the spools and fittings a lined valve bolts to: 1/2" through 12", PTFE, PVDF or polypropylene lined, carbon steel or 304/316 stainless housings. Fittings conform dimensionally to ANSI B16.5 and are welded to ASME B31.3 by welders certified to ASME Section IX, every lined pipe spool and fitting passes a minimum 10,000-volt spark test, and our lined pipe and fittings comply with ASTM F1545. Lined strainers from our piping accessories protect the seat. Bolt torque guidance is on our technical details page; the industries are covered on our Texas lined pipe page.

FAQ: Plastic Lined Industrial Valves in Texas
Which lined valve handles spent caustic and alkylation acid at a Texas Gulf Coast refinery?
PTFE-lined plug valves for isolation on sulfuric acid and spent caustic, because the sleeve seal tolerates sludge and crystals, though grit can score it, and the valve adjusts in line, and PFA-lined ball valves on the aqueous hydrofluoric acid of the neutralization and scrubber side for bubble-tight shutoff with no wetted metal; the anhydrous HF in the unit runs in carbon steel and Monel. We confirm the lining against concentration and temperature before we quote.
Do you supply lined valves for sodium hypochlorite at a Freeport chemical plant or a Houston-area water plant?
Yes. A lined diaphragm valve for dosing, a PFA-lined ball valve for isolation and a lined check valve at the pump. Hypochlorite breaks down on contact with iron, nickel and copper, so a fully lined valve protects the product as much as the valve.
Can a lined valve go into a Central Texas wafer fab's acid or ultrapure water distribution?
PFA-lined diaphragm, ball and sampling valves are specified in fab chemical distribution because the lining adds no metal ions and resists hydrofluoric acid, nitric acid and peroxide mixtures. Tell us the purity requirement and we will match the valve to it.
Will you supply an automated lined valve for a Permian acidizing or produced-water skid?
We assemble the actuator, positioner, limit switches and solenoid on the lined valve in our shop and test the package before it ships. PTFE-lined ball or plug valves handle 15 percent hydrochloric acid and chloride brine, and the package arrives ready to pipe and wire.
