Plastic Lined Piping Accessories in Georgia
In a Georgia bleach plant or kaolin acid room, lined-pipe trouble usually starts between the spools. A strainer plugs, a pump nozzle takes the strain, or a tank cannot be isolated for inspection. Marspec Technical Products supplies the accessories that solve those problems. Call (251) 625-4949 or contact us online.
They ship with the lined spools built in our shop in Fairhope, Alabama. Our Georgia lined pipe page describes the state's industries. Here, items from our piping accessories, vessel accessories and temperature maintenance products are each tied to a Georgia service where they do real work.
Bleach lines at Jesup and the coastal mills
The cellulose plant at Jesup runs three fiber lines. Two make about 330,000 tonnes a year of high-purity cellulose specialties for filtration, food, pharmaceutical and tire cord uses. The third makes about 270,000 tonnes of fluff pulp. Mills of this kind bleach with chlorine dioxide, and its solution and filtrates pit stainless steel. That puts the bleach plant in PTFE-lined pipe, with three accessories doing most of the work around it.
- PTFE expansion joints where hot runs meet towers, washers and pumps, so the steel housing's growth never loads a nozzle.
- Sight flow indicators on the chlorine dioxide and peroxide feeds, so an operator can see each tower's dose arrive.
- Lined spectacle blinds that close off a tower or washer for an outage without cutting pipe.
The same set fits the bleach plants at Port Wentworth and Brunswick, covered on our Savannah page. It fits the paperboard mill on our Augusta page too. Liner choices stage by stage are on our pulp and paper page.
Kaolin: lined on the acid side
Georgia mines about a billion dollars' worth of kaolin a year, more than any other state, with Washington County and Sandersville at the center. Bleaching drops the clay slurry to about pH 3 with sulfuric acid, and hydrosulfite then takes the iron into solution.
The acid feed is where lined accessories belong. A dip tube delivers sulfuric acid below the liquid surface in the day tank, so it does not fall and splash. A lined strainer guards the metering pump, and a sight flow indicator confirms the dose is moving. The acidified slurry is another matter. It is abrasive, and rubber-lined pipe often outwears any fluoropolymer liner there.
Solar cells and battery cells
The Cartersville solar plant makes silicon ingots, wafers and cells, each step built for about 3.3 gigawatts a year, and its module line builds about 16,700 panels a day. At Commerce, SK Battery America's battery cell complex is built for about 22 gigawatt-hours a year.
Both sites handle fluoride. Solar cell lines strip oxide from the wafers in dilute hydrofluoric acid, and the lithium salt in battery electrolyte releases HF on contact with moisture. HF permeates PTFE, so spools in that service get heavy-wall liners and vented housings. Fluoride also attacks glass, so we keep sight flow indicators off HF lines and put them on the hydrochloric acid feeds. In the bulk chemical yards, lined spectacle blinds isolate a tank for inspection and lined strainers protect the transfer pumps.
Winter in north Georgia
Cartersville and Commerce sit well inland, where winter nights fall below freezing. Fifty percent caustic soda starts to crystallize near 54 °F. On an outdoor caustic rack, electric tracing laid over heat transfer compound holds the line above that point. The controller should hold the housing well under the liner's limit, which is 275 °F for PVDF and 450 °F for PTFE. Clamp-on steam heaters suit valves, pumps and low points, which cool first.
Machining and coating
Our services cover two jobs a catalog cannot. Custom PTFE machining makes a part to your drawing. Fluoropolymer powder coating protects steel parts with shapes no liner can follow. We check the service before quoting a coating, since it is a thinner barrier than a liner.
Spools, fittings and valves
The accessories bolt to lined spools from our Fairhope shop, sized 1/2" through 12" and up to 20 ft long. Housings are carbon steel or 304/316 stainless. Our fittings conform dimensionally to ANSI B16.5, and our lined valves mate with the same flanges. Liner temperature limits, liner thicknesses, flange dimensions and torque tables are on our Technical Details page.

FAQ: Plastic Lined Piping Accessories in Georgia
Which accessories does a chlorine dioxide bleach plant at a Georgia pulp mill need?
Three items cover most of it. PTFE expansion joints go where hot runs meet towers and pumps. Sight flow indicators go on the chlorine dioxide and peroxide feeds, and lined spectacle blinds isolate a tower for an outage. All bolt to PTFE-lined spools, the liner we recommend for chlorine dioxide.
Should kaolin bleaching lines around Sandersville be lined?
The sulfuric acid and hydrosulfite feeds should, with dip tubes, lined strainers and sight flow indicators. The acidified slurry is abrasive, so rubber-lined pipe often lasts longer. Where a lined spool is wanted, use PVDF, the toughest, most abrasion-resistant of the three liners, within velocity limits.
Can a sight flow indicator go on hydrofluoric acid at a Georgia solar or battery plant?
Not with a glass window, which fluoride attacks. We put them on other feeds, and for the HF lines we supply heavy-wall PTFE-lined spools in vented housings, lined strainers and spectacle blinds.
How should a north Georgia plant keep 50 percent caustic from crystallizing in winter?
Electric tracing over heat transfer compound, under insulation, with clamp-on steam heaters at valves and low points. Set the tracing controls so the housing stays well under the liner's temperature limit.
