Plastic Lined Fittings in Georgia
In Georgia, much of the lined fittings work is on the coast around Savannah and Brunswick and along the fall line from Augusta to Sandersville. A bleach plant, a monomer unit, a nitric acid plant and a kaolin bleach circuit each ask something different of an elbow or a tee. Marspec Technical Products supplies PTFE-, PVDF- and polypropylene-lined fittings for all four, and fabricates the custom spools between them in Fairhope, Alabama. Call (251) 625-4949 with a fitting list.
PTFE lined fittings in carbon and stainless steel are stocked; PVDF and polypropylene lined to order. Our Georgia page gives the statewide picture, and the Savannah and Augusta pages cover the plants in detail. Contact us online with sizes, liner and quantities.
Four Georgia services, four fitting problems
Bleach plants on the coast
The Port Wentworth pulp mill bleaches with chlorine dioxide, and Brunswick's cellulose mill generates its own on site. Chlorine dioxide and acidic D-stage filtrate go in PTFE-lined fittings with vented housings, since chlorine dioxide permeates slowly through any fluoropolymer. Polypropylene is never used for chlorine dioxide. A stainless housing earns its keep where washdown and fumes attack the outside of a fitting.
Monomer lines at Riceboro
The Riceboro polyacrylamide complex has added 80 percent to its U.S. capacity for dimethylaminoethyl acrylate, a building block for its cationic polymers. Inhibited monomer can polymerize wherever it stands still, so fitting layout matters as much as liner choice. Short-stack tees keep the branch close to the run, and lug-body instrument tees put a transmitter on the line without a long nozzle. PTFE is the liner for these amine-bearing acrylates, because amines and strong caustic attack PVDF.
Nitric acid in Augusta
The nitrogen complex on Columbia Nitrogen Road is permitted for about 730,000 short tons of nitric acid a year. PTFE-lined fittings carry acid that is too hot or too strong for stainless; at ambient temperature, 304L handles commercial-strength acid as well. Polypropylene is not an option for nitric acid. Ammonium nitrate and UAN solutions crystallize as they cool, so fully jacketed fittings and jacketed spools keep those lines liquid.
Kaolin along the fall line
Kaolin plants bleach clay by acidifying the slurry with sulfuric acid to about pH 3 and adding sodium hydrosulfite to dissolve the iron. The result is acidic and abrasive at once. PVDF, the toughest, most abrasion-resistant of the three liners, is our fitting choice there, kept within velocity limits. A lateral's 45° branch is gentler on a slurry junction than the square turn of a tee.
The full fitting range
Our lined pipe and fittings page tables each shape's dimensions, liners and housings, and Technical Details holds the liner thickness, flange and bolt torque data. In brief:
- 90° elbows, 45° elbows and 90° reducing elbows
- Equal tees, reducing tees and reducing run tees
- Standard instrument tees and lug-body instrument tees
- Short-stack tees, short-stack crosses and standard crosses
- Laterals
- Concentric and eccentric reducers
- Blind flanges, reducing flanges, and scalloped and straight-bore reducing flanges
- Ring and full-face spacers, solid or armored
- Fully jacketed fittings for steam or hot-oil service
- Custom lined spools up to 20 ft, fabricated in our Fairhope shop
Every shape is available in carbon steel or 304/316 stainless, in sizes from 1/2" up to 12". Every quote we send includes a fabrication time. Before a mill outage, tell us your required date when you request a quote.
Replacing a fitting in a running system
Ordering a replacement starts with four facts about the fitting coming out: flange class, liner, housing material, and the center-to-face or face-to-face dimension. Our fittings conform dimensionally to ANSI B16.5. A standard elbow or tee from us fills the length a B16.5 fitting of the same class left behind. If a lined valve's raised face is a different diameter from the fitting beside it, a 1/2" spacer goes between them.
Lined valves for these services are on our lined valves page and our Georgia valve page. Strainers, expansion joints and blinds are on our Georgia accessories page.
What every fitting carries
Lined fittings carry identifying markings on their flanges in accordance with ASTM F1545, so the stamp on an old fitting is the place to start. Our lined pipe and fittings comply with ASTM F1545, and carbon steel housings are primed for field top-coating. Every lined spool and fitting is spark tested at a minimum of 10,000 volts to find liner defects before it ships. The lined fittings we supply are welded to ASME B31.3 by welders certified to ASME Section IX, the welding qualification code. More than half a century in lined pipe stands behind the work.

FAQ: Plastic Lined Fittings in Georgia
Which fittings do you recommend for chlorine dioxide at a Georgia bleach plant?
PTFE-lined elbows, tees and reducers in vented housings, with stainless housings where fumes and washdown reach the outside. Chlorine dioxide permeates slowly through any fluoropolymer, and the vents let it escape instead of collecting behind the liner.
How do we keep dead legs out of the monomer lines at Riceboro?
Use short-stack tees and lug-body instrument tees to keep branch volume small, and pair them with lined diaphragm valves. Keep those lines in PTFE, since amine-bearing acrylates rule out PVDF.
Are PVDF fittings for kaolin slurry kept in stock?
No. PVDF and polypropylene fittings are lined to order; the stocked items are PTFE-lined fittings in carbon steel and stainless. Send the count early with the date you need them, and we will quote the fabrication time.
Can your fittings replace another maker's at an Augusta plant?
Usually, once we know the flange class, liner, housing and measured dimension of the fitting coming out. A photo of the flange marking helps, and we confirm the match before we quote.
